I was making $50K a year with a wife and two kids and still I'd take 3 months off every summer because (1) our mortgage was $450 a month (2) she was a good basic girl not a fashion model addicted to bling and (3) I prefer doing things to having things. I watch most folks in the modern US of A dig their own hole far more effectively than anyone else could ever entrap them.

I did eventually move to S.E. Asia and live here full time. Guess what? You are still a rat."

I had an old university friend who became a stockbroker. Hated the long hours, traveling, the demand to increase his clients list and work his way up the firm. Began to have medical problems from the stress. One day on his 33rd birthday, he decided to quit his job. Move out of the city and started an office and home cleaning business. Of course his city girlfriend ended their relationship, because she didn't want to be involved with a "cleaning person" and she would miss the city life.

He sets his own hours. His office is a room in his less expensive new house. Owns all his equipment and it is expanding. He is also a co-owner (silent partner) in a pallet making factory. So he is still dabbling in business. The difference is it's Main Street and not Wall Street.

There are always options. But I know a guy who is a car afficionado, wanted to do it, and open his own car shop. He works with more three mechanics and earns good money, but not HUGE amounts no way.

When I was younger I wanted to have a nice life so I can provide for my family. Given the current state of affairs, I guess I will have more than enough to... well, myself.

I even predict that this is going to be the big issue of tomorrow... women don't like to work, and men don't care to anymore. Why? There's no purpose anymore. What drove us to it was our families. We are more than happy living with the basics and a little more, usually stuff that we like as hobbies. I for example like bikes and old cars, that's all kinda cheap compared to the stuff that modern women like. In the end, excess money got pointless. Why I am going to have a huge amount of it if I can provide for myself with more than enough and don't have no one else to provide to? If I die everything would go to the socialist idiot that will win the election again, why bother?

That is the question for men: why bother? It is not worth it anymore. We are in for our own entertainment now, and they can't reach us with their bullshit advertisement campaings like they do so easily with women. So, their loss. We're doing what we always did, getting qualified because we like and doing what we want because we can.

And THAT'S the price women are going to pay with their "liberation"... sadly (to them), men are realizing they are liberated too.Brazilian Bachelorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12063838250928063795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26622393.post-1161751089393087732006-10-25T00:38:00.000-04:002006-10-25T00:38:00.000-04:00Youngbuck,it doesn't mention it in your profile, b...Youngbuck,

it doesn't mention it in your profile, but did I see somewhere on one of your previous posts that you're African-American? If so...
I assume you've noticed that the Canadians seem to have elected some common sense into government and have de-funded some of the worst fadical feminists. Here in the UK, the highest levels of our govt are infested with them. The left wing Blair govt is only slightly more popular than Bush and it has for some time been hemorrhaging support to the far right. In the last week or so, it seems that someone figured out that they were losing more votes there than they stood to make up kow-towing to every complaint from the Muslims and there's been a noticeable change in tone. In hints of the beginnings of a turnaround elsewhere, in just the last week, BBC execs have admitted to a left wing bias*, on a different channel there was a prime time documentary on battered men and today we have this...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6080096.stm
Astonishing!

* http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=411977&in_page_id=1770heretic commenterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12334870331781542209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26622393.post-1161680029368908892006-10-24T04:53:00.000-04:002006-10-24T04:53:00.000-04:00Bryce - very good points!I remember reading an art...Bryce - very good points!

I remember reading an article, forget where I read it titled, "The forgotten millionaires" or something to that nature. Just talking about blue collar guys who don't come from wealthy backgrounds who built incredible wealth. They talked about a guy who started out as an escalator repair man. Was an electrician by trade. He was an apprentice for a while, then after that was done, began making some really good money. By the time he was 28, he had saved enough money to open up his own business. All the stories were similar to this. Another was an auto mechainic and he opened up a shop too. Funny you mention that women ignore them, the auto mechanic guy was said, when he's out in a bar and tell women that he's a mechanic, most of them stop talking to him....lol. Being blue collar is pussy repellant to many women. Absolutely no moral fiber or character. People always talk about lawyers being cutthroat, but I disagree with that. Some do pro bono work.

They are also tired of people "networking" i.e. brownnosing them. In an unintended way, I think they respect me more because unlike the other new kids on the block, I don't kiss their ass constantly or try to hang out with them after work. I just do my work and that's that.Youngbuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02273283618085213789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26622393.post-1161647055851167822006-10-23T19:44:00.000-04:002006-10-23T19:44:00.000-04:00No it's not worth it. I have been there and I know...No it's not worth it. I have been there and I know. Everybody wants you working 24/7 except you. Your single and singled out. It's like you are not allowed to have a life because you are single. The women are useless and the married guys
seem to always have an excuse. Ah, yes it's all coming back to me now. Get out while you can. If your not happy right now then you are not going to be happy 10 years from now. Figure out what you realy want to do, you may want to do several things, start planning how to get there and don't even think about getting married. You will get a ton of shit from everyone. Mostly from family but if you can weather the storm you will be your own man in the end. Now that's worth it.Cybrohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14545791185995604994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26622393.post-1161611794387246162006-10-23T09:56:00.000-04:002006-10-23T09:56:00.000-04:00I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA during the 1970s and 8...I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA during the 1970s and 80s as steel mills and coal mines closed en masse, so I was brought up with the "work with your head, not your hands" mantra.

That being said, I can certainly "feel yer pain" here. But maybe we missed the boat. Why?

1) You can't ship a clogged drain or short circuit to India or China to be fixed.

2) There is a serious impending shortage of qualified tradespeople, as a lot of the older folks are retiring and fewer young people are entering. I saw several billboards for the local ironworkers' union to recruit young people yesterday. Furthermore, the competition in these fields is less, as few people say, "I want to be an HVAC technican or diesel mechanic when I grow up."

3) You won't rack up thousands of dollars in student loans to get your training, nor will you be out of the labor market for four years at the peak of your youth and energy.

4) You'll receive less attention from women, as they'll PERCEIVE you as "not wealthy" and "low status." Notice that I stressed the word "perceive" here, as skilled trades can pay as much, and often lots more, than entry-level positions requiring a college degree, minus the student loans. If you go into business for yourself, you can easily build a million-dollar asset base.

But women are attracted to the perception of wealth and status, and want to say, "I'm dating a corporate lawyer/investment broker/neurosurgeon" to impress people, and could care less that the blue-collar guy could actually be wealthier than the paper-pusher.

5) Corollary to #4, you won't find many career women in the trades. For one thing, they are both physically and intellectually demanding (you have to have a good head on your shoulders, contrary to popular perception) and therefore not many women can meet the requirements for these trades. There's also that perception of status thing that crops up here. Not to mention that you don't have a lot of time and space for gossip and shopping.

6) There are more objective measures of success in the trades. Either the engine runs or it doesn't. Either the lights come on or they don't. It doesn't matter if you aren't the most socially skillful or have the right personality, because you'll get ahead if you can fix things on schedule and within budget.

7) Imagine what would happen if all of the corporate lawyers, media personalities, diversity consultants, and/or human resources personnel went on strike tomorrow. Now, imagine what would happen if all of the plumbers, truck drivers, electricians, and/or auto mechanics went on strike tomorrow.

What do you think?Brycehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03742008198071373462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26622393.post-1161504993140348262006-10-22T04:16:00.000-04:002006-10-22T04:16:00.000-04:00Is it all worth it? How so? As I understand it, the family courts use something called 'imputed income' when deciding alimony/child support payments. Imputed income means alimony/child support are based on what a guy SHOULD be able to earn given his qualifications and experience, and NOT what he DOES earn. For Wall Streeters, the alimony/child support award would be so high that they would have great difficulty earning enough anywhere else to meet the payments. Further, the more senior staff are, the more true this becomes. Add to this the fact that the extreme hours demanded of staff, combined with the inevitable chit chat among wives of fantastic payouts, are all but guaranteed to lead to an extremely high divorce rate, and what I expect you'll find is that many of the senior managers become trapped. Try running this analysis by one or two of them some time as a question and if I'm right, your recognition of 'the' (i.e. 'their') predicament combined with seeking their advice may well be the key to building rapport among them. If you frame it as a profitability question, you might even get to find out what they think about the women worker issues you mention.

HCheretic commenterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12334870331781542209noreply@blogger.com
